I am currently working on my major project at university and the theme I have chosen is the importation of flowers. I am going to travel to Holland later in the month to visit the flower gardens and look more into the floral industry. In the meantime I have been researching lots of other photography projects and the way people photograph flowers.
Although I have come across some really amazing pieces of work by talented artists, I have found that in general flower photography is very generic. Flowers are normally displayed in vases to look their best so I have decided to try and create some images that break the rules and focus on the flower as a whole not just the pretty part at the top, and displaying them in an unconventional way.
You must let me know when you are coming over. Maybe I can get you a behind the scenes look. The dutch present flowers beautifully and in different ways, I am sure you’ll see that when you come. I’ll look forward to seeing your shots. I loved the petal one, you captured the delicate nature of them so well. Thank you for linking up to #pointshoot 📷

Haha these pictures made me smile, the way you’ve displayed the flowers, standing on their heads etc ☺️ Still makes for beautiful photos, especially the last one I think, though some of the others are more intriguing/funny/interesting. Some of them remind me of Dutch Baroque period paintings, where whiltering flowers were used to symbolise decay, ageing, lack of control, and the constant precense of death. Best of luck with your project and your trip to the Netherlands! Perhaps you’ll get the chance to see some of the old paintings IRL while you’re there? 😉 #PointShoot

I hadn’t really thought of seeing artwork while in Holland but it would be great if I have the time! 😁

I love what you did with these! Made me think about them as an analogy for people — we try to be at our best, of course, and try to present our best face, but it’s nice to also be appreciated even during our wilted, messy moments.

Thank you, this is so true, there is beauty no matter what is shown on the outside 🙂
